The Ghats are the principal attractions of Varanasi, and are a sight to behold, especially at dawn when thousand stand waist-deep in the water, praying to the rising Sun. Out of the over hundred ghats, there are 5 ghats in which pilgrims are supposed to bathe, in the same day. They are the Assi, Dasashwamedh, Adi Keshav, Panchganga and Manikarnika. At dusk, the 'aarti' (hyms and prayers) and the sight of hundreds of lighted lamps flowing on the waters are sights one cannot forget.
